What is the Gospel?

The Gospel means ‘Good News’.

We didn’t just ‘happen’ rather we all have value because we were created by God to know Him.

We were not made like droids where we have to obey but were created with a capacity to love and choose. But, like everyone else, we mess up by opting to live life without reference to our Creator God and following His guidelines for life. The result - a life lived with an unmet ‘inner ache’ for significance and meaning.

Louis Pascal, a great French philosopher, said that in the heart of every person is a God-shaped vacuum that nothing else can or will fill.

Jesus arrived into the world scene preaching this good news that we can have this fractured relationship with God restored. Not only that, God is willing to give us all a fresh start and a new ’heart’. Neither forgiveness nor a place in heaven can be earned – but only received as a free gift from God Himself as we humbly acknowledge that doing it our way doesn’t work. It’s more than turning over a new leaf but rather turning over our lives to Him.

Jesus’ death and resurrection is the means by which God demonstrates His love towards us by ‘wiping our slates’ clean. What Jesus accomplished on the cross provides us with tangible evidence of God’s compassion and mercy. Not only that, He gives an ‘inner empowerment’ for living this new life through the help of the Holy Spirit, until our bodies die or Jesus returns. Then there will be no more tears or pain, all things will be made new – the adventure continues...
